I suspect that the injector pump may be leaking back and loosing pressure, and /or the glow plugs are not working. I have not did any troubleshooting on either yet. Just got this 85 Ford CL55 a week ago and cannot figure out how to bleed the air out of the fuel system. It has fuel to the pump but after that it is just barely dripping and the machine will not start. There is no solenoid on this setup so it is all gear driven. I see the hand primer but no clue where to bleed the air off. Thanks in advance!
Oh, and a hint for anyone else planning on repowering a Ford CL-55 or the Thomas equivelent take note that the Kubota engine will require some major reconstruction of the battery box and some frame of the machine! I almost went with the Kubota but am glad now I did'nt due to the 2 extra inches of hieght it wouln't fit!
After fighting with the Shibaura 2.1 litre engine it's obvious a change is needed. I purchased a Yanmar 4TNE86 today and will be changing them over. It's a minor HP gain going to the Yanmar but major gains in other ways such as getting parts and better cold starting. There are a .
RJSS, I know this thread is getting old but do you have any pics? We just got a CL55 barn find that hasnt run in about a year. Got it running buut the engine is the weak link. Did you want to sell the old engine you have? The parts may come in handy for us later on. We dragged a CL55 out of the fence row. Got it started, flushed hydrauic system, new hoses and rebuilt cylinders, even all new tires. Hydraulics and engine work great. The only issue we still are facing is there doesnt seem to be a neutral position. Forward or reverse only, kind of like riding a bull ! Is there an adjustment or what exacty is .
