I see nothing unfair about your pricing after factoring in manpower, fuel, insurance, repairs, etc.
No need to drive by Home Depot for rental locations it can be checked on line. Some of their rental prices are totally out of sight and definitely make sure it works before you walk out of the rental, their stuff is usually relatively new and well maintained but sometimes sits forever between use. I'm considering renting a mini-excavator to dig about 10 stumps in the 12 to 24" range. My question is, how steep is the learning curve for a mini-excavator for someone who has lots of hydraulic tractor experience?
I am thinking about purchasing a Hyundai Mini Excavator model R17Z-9A for digging small ponds and stumps and planting large trees. What are your thoughts on this Manufacture? A friend in the business is trying to convince me. Can you rent the Ex to do the septic and bigger stuff and buy a smaller tractor with a BH to do the smaller stuff? Hiring yourself out can get extremely expensive and complicated. Permits, fees, insurance, inspections, and if you mess up.My wife & I are considering renting a min-excavator in order to rip out some bushes and stumps that are in the way of future plans; and I was wondering if I could reasonablely make a full sized huglecultre using a "mini". Just curious if anyone has experience operating mini-excavators. I've added this photo as a potential model. Rental rates would likely rack up quickly given the amount of work I see ahead.
When you rent it, make sure the rental company goes over everything with you. Before you actually start digging I'd suggest driving and "practicing" in a wide open area. Also make sure you call 811 or a similar service in your area to ensure there aren't any utilities buried underneath where you're digging.
