1. Jun 21, 2013. #2. I was moving bales yesterday, everything was working fine. These bales are 1700 to 1800 lbs each. Unloaded a load, then went 1/2 mile to next field, boom will lift and tilt empty, but as soon as you try to lift a bale, it won't lift. Hydraulic oil level is where it should be, and I changed the filter, but that didn't work. I tried separate ground from instrument panel to body frame, but no lock; finally read the Real Deere manual and found purple wire #740 ; that's number 740 written right in the purple wire, from the instrument panel.
When we first acquired the skid steer we had this issue and were able to track it down to the alternator having been rewired incorrectly. It was not charging the battery. We would jumper the machine to get it started which put a brief charge on the battery and by doing so would bring the battery voltage above 12 volts.
