I have decided it's much easier to disassemble the starter while on the engine. Remove the 2 bolts 3/8 wrench that hold the end cap on and the small one 5/16 wrench that . Locate the Starter The starter is typically located on the engine block and is connected to the flywheel. I have decided it's much easier to disassemble the starter while on the engine. Remove the 2 bolts 3/8 wrench that hold the end cap on and the small one 5/16 wrench that connects the power strap from the starter to the solenoid.
Engine oil filter I have not personally worked on an 1816, but in a lot of cases with older air cooled gasoline engines, you probably need to remove the engine from the machine.
