I have a large tract of land (700 acres), of which about 600 is in timber. I am cutting the timber and would like to clear as much of the cutover land as I can to make open pasture/farm land. I have no experience in large machines or clearing land. I do have a skid steer as well an an 11K pound excavator so have some experience in compact . To me if you are tending to large fields or farming get a tractor. If you are up keeping property and have less than an acre or so to plow maybe you can get by with just a skid steer. Skid steers can prepare land for later use with a tractor. Here is a little clearing i made recently. It took 2 days to make with a skid steer.

Gave up on that POS and replaced it with a 2012 Case TR270 that's got to be getting close to 1200hrs+ by now. Also traded the Gehl V400 skid for a Case 321E mini wheel loader. The farm ran Gehl skid steers for years, 7800's, 7810's the V400, the RT210, I believe a couple 5640's or 6640's and the last batch of the V400 and the Rt210 did it for them.
