Zero turns come with two transmissions, one for the left wheel and one for the right. They're also a bit quick for a skid steer, but that isn't a big deal since you can drive the axles of the skid steer with a chain reduction from the zero turn axles. This way you have a very compact build, because of the transverse mounting of engine and transmission. Shortening two driveshafts would be easier than to chop down a rigid axle. Then you can mount the shafts to a chain drive box that connects front and rear wheels.
