Looking for some guidance. Recently picked up a 1985 Case 1835b gas engine skidsteer with 3300 hours and has been sitting for the last 9 years. It was used only 50 hours in the last 20 years. It seemed to start and run fine when I looked at it. Once I get it home it proceeds to shut off randomly. The problem of running after the key is shut off has to do with air getting in the fuel system. Loosen off the injection lines, at the injectors and crank over the engine. When fuel comes out of them the air is bled out. Tighten the lines and it should run. The fuel shut off solenoid wire breaks off sometimes too, so check that, if no fuel comes out. Shut off the fuel, pull the small side cover window, let the fuel drain. Rotate the engine BY HAND until the 2 lines line up.. 1 is stationary and 1 rotates. Check the timing *'s on your flywheel for proper engine timing w/ the lines lined up.. Check the fuel shut solenoid is working, if it's not, it will not allow fuel to get to the injector pump. Start by hooking up a jug of fresh fuel straight to the lift pump. Prime it and ensure you are getting fuel to the injector pump (lift pumps do go bad). There are two check valves on the engine side of the primer pump. There is an easy way to check for valve leakage. Run the engine up to normal operating temp then clamp off the fuel line between the hand primer and the filters, then shut down the engine.
It has an after-market auxiliary low-pressure fuel pump that feeds into the 2-filter housing (picture 2 with auxiliary pump removed.) It draws from a small in-line canister (picture 3) right at the bottom of the fuel tank with a shut off valve treaded into the tank.
